Ferrater Mora corresponded with a large number of people, writing
letters in Spanish, Catalan, English, and French. No one knows
exactly how many letters he wrote because they were not always
preserved. On the other hand, he filed many of the letters he
received. This collection of approximately 5,000 letters, covering a
period from the late 1940's until his death in 1991, has been
digitally indexed by the Ferrater Mora Chair of Contemporary Thought
at the University of Girona. For further information concerning the
availability of these letters and for a list of authors, organized
both alphabetically and by number of letters written, see Correspondència de Josep Ferrater Mora, Biblioteca
Josep Ferrater Mora. For a public announcement, see El Dia digital.
A collection of letters, written in Catalan, between Ferrater Mora
and his friend and fellow exile in Chile, the poet Joan Oliver, known
as Pere Quart, was published in 1988 under the title Joc de Cartes
1948-1984 edited by Antoni Turull.
Another, smaller collection of letters, written in Spanish, between Ferrater Mora and Antonio Rodríguez Huéscar was published in the
Boletín de la Institución Libre de Enseñanza, II, 16 (1993), 7-34 and 17 (1993), 7-32.
A large number of personal letters, written in English by Ferrater Mora to Priscilla Cohn have been preserved. Excerpts from these letters reveal his comments on the world at large, his work, his life, books, movies, and so forth.
